December Meeting
Dr. Lesley de Souza
Lesley is a conservationist with a special interest in Neotropical fishes. Her research focuses on understanding fish diversity in the Amazon basin and utilizing this scientific research for community-based conservation efforts. Lesley is also an avid angler and has worked with indigenous communities in the Amazon to develop fly fishing for Amazonian species like the endangered Arapaima – the largest scaled freshwater fish on Earth. Working with the local communities they collect scientific data to protect species from extinction and ensure safe catch and release methods. Her talk in December will discuss the importance of protecting rivers to safeguard its biodiversity, preserve the livelihood of those who depend on them and assure that the gorgeous and wild rivers we love to fish are around for generations to come!
